Lower Minnesota River East Watershed
The Lower MN River East
Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan
The Lower Minnesota River East Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan (Plan) is a unifying strategy for water management in the Lower Minnesota River East Watershed (Planning Area).
The Plan will be implemented by local government units who choose to adopt the Plan as part of their watershed management efforts, and focuses on restoring impaired waters, addressing altered hydrology, understanding and protecting groundwater quality, and protecting and restoring quality habitat through holistic management.

A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that drains off of it goes into the same place—a river, stream or lake. And each small watershed is part of a more extensive watershed for a larger stream or lake.

The Lower Minnesota River East (LMRE) watershed contains areas from three counties: Le Sueur, Rice, and Scott. Local conservation leaders from each of these counties are working together to develop a Comprehensive Water Management plan to determine priorities to protect our water resources.
Partnership Goals
Water Resource Protection
Protect and improve resource concerns within the watershed boundaries to ensure targeted results.
Education and Outreach
Ensure the longevity of the watershed by educating residents on the natural resources they are protecting.
Public Input Implementation
Priorities for improvement based on public input and specialized, local concerns.
Assist with Statewide Programs
Align local water planning on major watershed boundaries within Minnesota's One Watershed One Plan program.
